“Before attending medical school, my first exposure to internal medicine, specifically outpatient internal medicine, was shadowing my uncle who is an internist. I developed an appreciation for the versatile nature of internal medicine which allows internists to care for their patients in both the acute care (hospital) and ambulatory (office) settings.”

Originally from Cary, Dr. Patel is motivated and inspired by the way internal medicine can make a difference in the lives of patients every single day.

“Internal medicine is fascinating in how it encompasses a wide variety of medical conditions, many of which span multiple organ systems and subspecialties,” Dr. Patel said.

Outside the office, Dr. Patel and his family love catching the latest sports games—especially if the Carolina Hurricanes are playing! In fact, if he hadn’t decided upon a career in medicine, Dr. Patel would have considered becoming a sports reporter.

As a history buff, Dr. Patel enjoys visiting local museums with his family. His favorite is the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
