HPV

HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection, encompassing more than 40 types of viruses that can affect not only the genitals, but the mouth and throat. Anyone who has had sexual intercourse can get HPV.

Like many other sexually transmitted infections, many who are infected with HPV may not even realize they have it, and in many cases, it HPV may go away before it causes any serious health problems. However, HPV can cause certain cancers and diseases such as genital warts. Because it is impossible to tell who may have complications from HPV and who may not, it is important to be tested.
